Golf Clothing – Does it Make a Difference?
You have a lot of choices when it comes to golf clothing. As a golfer, deciding what to wear may not be the first thing on your mind, but the choice of golf clothing could make a difference in how well you play.
Most golf clubs have a dress code. Which usually means you can’t wear tank tops or very short shorts and everyone must wear shirts that have collars, and you can forget about wearing jeans. The dress codes on some golf courses are less prohibitive and you can dress however you wish as long as it is in good taste.
Male golfers generally wear khaki pants and polo shirts with a collar. When the weather is warmer, fitted shorts are usually allowed. Most guys also wear hats to keep the sun out of their eyes.
Women golfers have more choices. Some prefer golf skirts because they are less restrictive, whereas others prefer shorts or loose pants. Women also wear polo shirts. On some of the more upscale courses the polo shirts can be sleeveless. Women usually wear visors to shade their eyes as opposed to hats.
When you pick out your golf clothing, make sure it is not too restrictive. Your golf swing depends on your body moving in a fluid, smooth motion, which means you will need room to move around in your clothing. When you are on the golf course, the last thing you want is clothing that is too tight.
Make sure your pants or shorts have pockets so that you can carry golf tees, divot fixers, and ball markers.
Your clothing should be made of lightweight, breathable fabrics – especially if you play golf in cold weather. Most golf clothing manufacturers know this so it should be pretty easy to find the correct clothing.
I wouldn’t recommend buying your golf clothes at a golf course pro shop since it will be much more expensive. It shouldn’t be too hard to find a golf store, and when you do you will find a great selection of golf clothes to choose from.
